Are the slight variations in edge finishing of the enamel on the Staub cookware normal?

Posting date: 22nd March 2010 15:02

We always physically check each piece of Staub cookware that we sell before sending it out to the customer and have noticed ourselves that they are slight variations on the finishing right at the end of the enamel. We raised this with Staub.

As we thought, because Staub handcraft all their pieces, the precision of the finish is not like a uniform machine produced cookware line. There will always be slight variations at the very edges.

However, on some of the cookware, the variation in the height of the finish, is done on purpose. For example where you have 2 different colours of enamel for inside and outside the pot - such as the Staub Cherry Fondue - then the makers purposely leave a line of cream at the top rather than the cherry. This is because, in use, people can bash down the top section of the fondue onto the underneath pot and crack the enamel slightly. This is not so noticeable in cream enamel, compared to red. So a lot of thought has gone into it how the pots and finished.
