Caring for Gastrolux Cookware

Posting date: 25th January 2011 14:38

I found this information from the USA seller of Gastrolux Cookware which I thought may be of interest to customers. I am just checking with Gastrolux themselves as to whether they agree with all the advice below but from experience I already agree with points 1) - 4)

8 Ways to Ruin Gastrolux Cookware

The nonstick finish on Gastrolux cookware provides for healthier cooking using less fat and oil, and also reduces cleaning time. But improper care can ruin this finish causing foods to stick, make cleaning more difficult, and reduce the lifespan of your cookware. Here's 8 ways you can ruin your cookwaere if proper care and maintenance isn't applied. Protect your investment in Gastrolux by avoiding these and enjoy your pans for many years.

1) Cutting Serving Portions With a Metal Knife or Utensil

Cutting meat in the pan with a metal knife or utensil can pierce the coating leaving your pans unsightly, cause foods to stick to the pierced spots. Use rubber or silicone spatulas to portion and serve from your Gastrolux cookware.

2) Storing Pans Improperly

Storing pans haphazardly along with other metal implements, can cause scratches in the finish. Always nest your nonstick pans carefully with dishclothes between them, and do not allow other metal pan covers with thin sharp edges to sit inside your pans.

3) Using Metal Spatulas, Whisks or Tongs

Refrain from using any metal utensils in your nonstick to stir, turn food, scrape food residue, or blend foods right in the pan. The best utensils to use are wood, plastic, or silicone. Gastrolux now has silicone which is terrific for blending. Even occasional fork-turning can nick and scratch your pan.

4) Cleaning With a Scouring Cleanser Pad

Using scouring products that are metal based or have harsh cleansers, can wear off the finish on your Gastrolux cookware. Always use plastic scourers or soft sponges. Always wash your cookware when it is hot, adding water should cause it to boil in your cookware, which helps to loosen food from the surface. A bit of dishsoap, and mild scrubbing with a 3M Scotch pad, or Gastrolux Dish Washing Brush is recommended.

6) Cleaning Pans in a Dishwasher

Dishwasher detergents generally are too harsh for most nonstick cookware , and will eventually cause the finish to wear off. The finish makes hand washing easy, and ensures no scratching takes place.

7) Cooking on High Heat

Gastrolux cookware can withstand high heat, however no food can withstand the same heat as the pan. Always pre-heat your cookware for a few minutes on high, then turn down to medium or low for cooking. Leaving the pan on high heat is only recommended when shocking the cookware as part of the maintenance instructions.

8) Storing Foods in Your Gastrolux Cookware

Foods should never be stored in the pans, and should be removed and cleaned carefully and dried before storing.

Following the Care & Maintenance instructions will ensure your investment will last a very long time.
