What does Broiling Mean?

Posting date: 9th November 2007 17:04

Our American cookware brand Calphalon has Care and Use guidelines which refer to broiling and broilers.

This is an American term, rather than an English one - it baffled me when I first saw it. I thought a broiler was a type of chicken!!

From a Saucepan point of view, broiling is the same as grilling. A broiler can usually be assumed to mean the top part of an electric or gas stove, the part under which you might brown a shepherd's pie or pasta dish.
