Explaining the different Demeyere pan ranges
Posting date: 26th October 2009 16:05
I thought I should just explain the general Demeyere ranges because whilst Demeyere are fantastic makers of cookware, they are not so good at English marketing and the difference between their ranges is very confusing!
We offer 3 Demeyere main brands Apollo, Atlantis and John Pawson. All are very good but as the prices suggest, John Pawson is the top range, then Atlantis, then Apollo.
Each range - Apollo, Atlantis and John Pawson - all have slightly differing technology, listed below, and each pan type within each range has been made to a specification that augments the cooking methods for which the pan is designed.
Demeyere also has a new induction range - based on the Atlantis cookware - which demonstrates Demeyere's focus on innovation. It now boasts the "ControIInduc" which means that the pan automatically switches off at 250oC. Currently, rather pricey, it does show the way to the future and Demeyere's commitment to innovation.
John Pawson for Demeyere
The top Demeyere range. The specific technology includes:
Silvinox - unique surface treated 18/10 stainless steel that is fingermark resistant Cast welded handles in 18/10 stainless steel, developed to minimise heat absorption Base straight pans eg saucepans and casseroles: have a hermetically sealed base (Inducto seal) which is welded around the bottom of the pan and includes - outer layer - 18/10 stainless steel
- layer 2 of base - silver
- layer 3 of base - copper
- layer 4 of base - silver
- layers 5, 6 and 7 - TripleInduct combination of 3 alloys meaning that the pan is suitable for all hobs including induction
Base curved or "conic" pans eg frying pans and sauté pans: have a 7 ply material in the base AND up the sides which includes - outer layer - 18/10 stainless steel
- layer 2 - pure aluminium
- layer 3 - aluminium alloy
- layer 4 - pure aluminium
- layer 5, 6 and 7 - TripleInduct combination of 3 alloys meaning that the pan is suitable for all hobs including induction
Double sided Lids - for extra insulation - 30 Year Guarantee (10 Years for Professional Use)
The John Pawson series was designed in 2008 to celebrate Demeyere's 100th birthday. John Pawson, the renown British Architect, is famous for his minimalist approach to buildings and objects and the series follows this tradition. It has formal simplicity with a unique contemporary character.
Demeyere Atlantis Range
The No 2 of our Demeyere ranges. Technology includes all that listed for John Pawson, EXCEPT that the lids are not double sided.
Of course, the pans do not have the John Pawson design either.
Demeyere Apollo Range
The No 3 of our Demeyere ranges. There are some changes to the technology as follows:
Base straight pans : have a base (Inductobase) which is applied to the bottom of the pan and includes: - pan base - 18/10 stainless steel
- layer 2 of base - aluminium alloy
- layer 3 of base - pure aluminium
- layer 4 of base - aluminium alloy
- layers 5, 6 and 7 - TripleInduct combination of 3 alloys meaning that the pan is suitable for all hobs including induction
Base curved or "conic" pans eg frying pans and saute pans: have the 7 ply material in the base AND up the sides which is specified in the Atlantis and John Pawson ranges above Handles are welded but not cast Lids are not double sided for extra insulation - this feature is only available in John Pawson range.
An added confusion is that there are certain Demeyere frying pans OUTSIDE of the above ranges which are recommended for use with each range. These are the Demereye Frying Pan ranges which are listed as 5-star, 4-star, 3+ star and 3 star. We list these as a seperate range and its technical specification is listed with each pan
Finally, we also list the Demeyere Specialty pans, such as Woks and Paella pans as a seperate range. The technical specification is listed on each pan
Hope this helps! It took me a good day to understand it all!
